What Popcorn does with your data
Popcorn has no accounts and no ads, and the extension contains no analytics code. To show a score it sends the titles on your screen to popcornclub.in. Your settings stay in your browser.
What the extension sends
When a supported streaming page shows titles, Popcorn asks popcornclub.in for their scores. For each title on screen the request contains:
- the streaming service and that service's catalog id for the title;
- the title's name and, when the page shows them, its year and type (movie or series);
- details the page shows that help match the right title, such as cast, director, genres and language.
The request also carries the catalog region (for example IN), the display language of the
streaming site, and the extension's version number.
It does not contain your name, email address, streaming account or any user or device identifier. The titles sent are the ones displayed on the page, so they reflect what you browsed, but they are not linked to you.
What the server keeps
popcornclub.in stores the titles that were looked up, with their catalog ids, region and language, so it can find and cache their ratings. This is catalog data. It is not tied to a person.
Like any web server, it sees your IP address when a request arrives. The address is used to limit request rates and is not stored in the ratings database.
What stays in your browser
Your preferences are saved with Chrome's local extension storage and never leave your device: fade filter thresholds, overlay size and style, which rating sources to show, and which streaming services Popcorn is enabled for.
Permissions
- Storage, to save the preferences above.
- Access to the supported streaming sites, to read the titles on the page and draw the score badges.
- Access to popcornclub.in, to look up scores.
What Popcorn does not do
- It does not show ads or sell data.
- It does not read your streaming account details or payment information.
- It does not load remote code. Everything it runs is in the package you install.
This website
popcornclub.in sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts of its own. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and the demo video is embedded from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player; those services receive your IP address when your browser fetches from them. Links to the Chrome Web Store carry campaign tags that tell the store listing which page you came from.
